When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

The word evangel means “good news,” and this is the heart of Christian faith. The Holy Spirit gives to the Church some who are evangelists – this is what Ephesians 4:11 tells us. These are men and women who have a special gift of telling the good news of Jesus to those who are not yet His followers. But we need to be careful that we don’t leave the work of sharing Jesus with others just to the evangelists. Each of us is called to share what He has done in our lives and invite them to follow Him. At the birth of Jesus, the angels gave the great news of His arrival to the shepherds, and they responded. Luke 2:15 says, “When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’” The shepherds responded to the good news and went off to see Jesus. We are called to share the good news with others; they, too, will be drawn by the Holy Spirit to come and see Jesus.

These have been words from the heart.
