There is very little in this world that is pure, without blemish. We keep having to wash and detail our cars because they easily get dirty, inside and out. Even the most sanitary hospital isn’t free from impurities. Too many patients contract a staph infection while recovering there for some other issue. The pollution of sin infects every human heart. The Bible says that there is no one righteous. We find we too easily fall into sin when temptation faces us. King David, who had taken advantage of his position as king to commit sin with Bathsheba, then arranged to have her husband Uriah sent to the front lines and certain death, understood just how impure was His heart. How he longed for a pure heart. So, he cries out, in Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” He knew that God was the only One who could do both – cleanse his heart and empower him to walk in steadfast holiness from then on. He can do the same for you and me as well. Lord, create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me.

These have been words from the heart.
