“Lord, what can I look forward to now?
You are the only hope I have.
Save me from all the wrong things I’ve done.
Don’t let foolish people make fun of me.”
Psalm 39:7-8 NIRV
The God Who Does Things
Canadian inventors have patented more than one million inventions. These include things created by natural-born citizens, residents, companies, or organizations based here. According to Canadian author Roy Mayer in his book “Inventing Canada: 100 Years of Innovation”: “Our innovators have given novelty, variety, and color to our lives with their great practical gifts, and the world would be an exceedingly boring and grey place without their vitality.” From AC radio tubes to zippers, these accomplishments are in the areas of sports, medicine and science, communications, entertainment, agriculture, manufacturing, and day-to-day necessities.

As you lie on your pillow tonight and your mind winds down from the day, what goes through it? Is it all the activities of the day just past, or making a mental list of all you have to do tomorrow? Is your mind racing with the things you did or didn’t do or say that you wish you had or hadn’t? Is your mind filled with regret? Joy? Thanksgiving? Hope? King David speaks into this in Psalm 39:7-8: “’Lord, what can I look forward to now? You are the only hope I have. Save me from all the wrong things I’ve done. Don’t let foolish people make fun of me.’” This is a great end-of-day prayer. David was facing the pressure of leadership, and enemies from outside of Israel and from his own family. He knew that God was the only One in whom He had hope. So, he asks the Lord for forgiveness – a great end-of-day request – and he asks that God would bless him with good friends surrounding him. Let’s pray those prayers today.
These have been words from the heart.
