They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.
Jude 1:18-19 NIV
Last Times
One of the last remnants of Hudson’s Bay Company in Vancouver was removed from the iconic downtown building that housed it for over a century this past Monday, January 12. Workers clad in high-visibility jackets removed the logo of Canada’s oldest retailer from high above the corner of West Georgia and Granville Street. Daily Hive reader Taylor shared a photo and described the moment as making HBC’s closure “feel real.” “Seeing the letters come down and sitting in the back of a truck really reinforces the message that The Bay is no more, and it is definitely the end of an era.”

Every time I read the Bible, I am amazed at how contemporary it is. While society may change, the human heart with its propensity to walk away from our Creator, remains the same. The book of Jude is direct in its description of the human condition. In Jude 1:18-19 the apostle writes: “They said to you, ‘In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.’ These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.” Jude has been describing two kinds of believers. There are those who stand firm in the faith, and then there are those who cause division—not because they disagree, but because they are not anchored in the truth. Here’s the key: in noisy times, it’s easy to get pulled into gossip, anger, or doubt. It’s easy to drift into the “talking church.” But God is calling us to be the walking church—people who live what we believe. When the world grows louder, let our lives grow quieter—filled with faith, hope, and the peace of Christ.
These have been words from the heart.
