Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.

Psalm 127:1 NIV

Unless the Lord Builds

If you weren’t bound by location, where, exactly, in the world would you choose to live and work from? According to Jobseeker, there’s one country we’re all collectively fantasizing about for our remote work dreams. In November, the job website released its report analyzing social trend data to uncover where people around the world wish to work if they had the chance to move anywhere. After looking at the data, it revealed that the most wished-for international relocation destination is Canada.

When we built our new house a few years ago, we had a friend build it for us. We had lived previously in a house that he and his father had built, and we knew the excellence of his work. Not only did he build our home with excellence, but he ensured that all the subtrades that he hired were of top quality as well. If this is our expectation for our temporary, human house, how much more important is it that our lives have the best builder as well. King David knew this, and writes, in Psalm 127:1: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.” When we try to build our own lives, we so often make a mess of things. We bring into our lives, baggage from our past and other challenges. How much better to allow our Creator Jesus to build our lives, shaping us to be able stand firm when the storms of life come. Invite Jesus to build your life, forming you into the man or woman He created you to be.

These have been words from the heart.
