For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh…

Philippians 3:3 NIV

By His Spirit

When it comes to Canadian symbolism, one creature that often comes to mind is the whiskey-jack bird. This remarkable bird, also known as the gray jay or Canada jay, holds a special place in Canadian culture and folklore. Let’s dive deeper into the symbolism associated with this fascinating creature. The whiskey-jack bird, known for its distinct gray plumage and playful nature, is considered to embody the essence of the Canadian spirit. According to Canadian Geographic, these birds possess traits that symbolize the resilient and friendly nature of Canadians. Just like the people of Canada, whiskey-jacks are tough, adaptable, and not afraid to face the challenges that come their way.

I recently heard a famous world leader wonder if he had done enough to get to heaven. Many people in our world wonder the same thing, and the answer for all of us is a simple “no.” None of us can do enough to span the divide between us and our Creator that sin had created. Paul says this in Philippians 3:3: “For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh…” In a world that often measures worth by achievements, status, or outward appearances, Paul reminds us that true identity is found in Christ alone. As believers, we are the “circumcision”—not by physical ritual, but by a heart transformed by the Spirit. Our worship is not rooted in tradition or performance, but in a living relationship with God through His Spirit. When we put “no confidence in the flesh,” we release the pressure to earn God’s favour, and we rest in His grace.

These have been words from the heart.
