he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.

Psalm 23:3 NIV

Renewed Strength

In some ways Canada is already a superpower. Its economic output is the eighth largest in the world. The seven countries with larger economies have bigger populations than Canada. Even with a short growing season and relatively small area devoted to agriculture, Canada is the fifth largest exporter of agri-food and seafood products. But economic strength is only one measure of a global power. Another is having the resources that others need. In that regard, Canada is extraordinarily rich in natural resources, including clean water.

This past November our family had three funerals in two weeks, including the passing of my wife’s mother. It was an incredibly draining and challenging time, as we said goodbye for now to a most beloved family member and two dear friends. We didn’t realize until it was all over just how draining that time was. We were emotionally drained. We often think of exhaustion in a physical sense, but often our exhaustion is emotional. It is during that time we can claim the promise in arguably the most famous of all psalms. Psalm 23:3 says, “he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” As the Lord leads us to places of peace and joy, we experience a refreshing in our soul. No matter how spiritually exhausted we are, as we take time in God’s word, worshipping Him and communicating with Him in prayer, we find that there is a refreshing that takes place deep within. If you need a spiritual refreshing, invite the Shepherd Lord Jesus to guide you along the right paths, to the places of peace.

These have been words from the heart.
