But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John 20:31 NIV
The Purpose
The fundamental role of Canada’s Senate is to be a complementary legislative body to the elected House of Commons in providing sober second thought. In that role, the Senate acts essentially as a reviewing chamber on proposed bills before they are passed. It has a fundamental role to play as the chamber for the representation of regional interests. The Senate has become an important institution for the representation of minority interests and groups who may be underrepresented in the elected chamber.

One of the greatest gifts that God has given to us is His written word. As the Holy Spirit inspired some 40 authors to record His work in this world and in the lives of His people, we get a complete record of His plan for the redemption of men and women from every tribe, tongue, and language. Nothing is in the Bible by chance. He had a very clear purpose in His book. We read about that in John 20:31: “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” None of the apostles doubted that Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah. John, the youngest of Jesus’ disciples, walked with Him for three and a half years, and knew Him well. He was there at the foot of the cross when Jesus died, experiencing the worst that Jesus suffered. He knew that everything he had written, in fact everything all the authors of the Bible had written, was to prove that Jesus was indeed the Saviour of the world, the One who alone can change our lives forever.
These have been words from the heart.
