“As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.”
Genesis 8:22 NIV
Endures
The homeless in Eastern Canada had to endure a deadly cold snap this past February. In Halifax temperatures dropped to -25 C, breaking a 52-year-old record when the city reported -24.4 C in 1971. Additionally, Brier Island, Kentville, Port Hawkesbury and Yarmouth all broke their own regional cold weather records in the province. Community groups set up shelters for unhoused people in hotel rooms and pop-up shelters as many housing shelters were already packed. A at homeless shelters worked tirelessly to get unhoused people indoors as temperatures dropped dangerously low.

Winter in Canada can be a challenging season for many. The good news is that spring always follows, with new life returning to the earth. Canadian summers are some of the best on the planet and the colours of autumn are breathtaking. The God who created our world designed the seasons to continue, one after another, until He brings about the new heavens and the new earth. The Bible made this promise as far back as Genesis 8:22: “‘As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.’” Our Creator is brilliant in His design of our world. He ensures that it will continue in its consistent cycles. We can count it. This isn’t surprising because His nature is consistency. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. If that is the case with the macro of the universe, you can count on the same in your own life. When our world seems to be rocking, our God remains the immutable rock on which we can build our lives. You can count on Him.
These have been words from the heart.
