In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.

Jesus’ Birth – The Nations
The video series “Canada Among Nations” is the premier source for contemporary insight into pressing Canadian foreign policy issues. Started at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University, the series has brought together leading scholars, practitioners, journalists, and members of the NGO community for an assessment of Canada’s foreign policy since 1984. The series is produced by The Centre for International Governance Innovation, which tackles the governance challenges and opportunities of data and transformative technologies.

Jesus’ birth was the fulfillment of thousands of years of God’s redemptive plan that was first introduced in the Garden of Eden, immediately after sin entered into the human heart and God’s creation was marred. Early on, God chose a small tribe that would come to be known as the Jews, through which He would introduce His holiness and His grace to the world. The Jewish people were promised a Messiah, a Redeemer, and they longed for Him. Throughout the redemption narrative, God kept reminding His people that while He had chosen them as the channel through which the Messiah would come, He would come to be the Redeemer of all nations. In Isaiah 11:10 we read, “In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.” When Jesus was born, He came to offer Himself as the Saviour for every nation, tribe and tongue, so that redeemed from each would gather around the throne in Glory and praise Him forever. This is the Christmas truth – Jesus came for you and calls us to reach the nations.
These have been words from the heart.
