Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

1 John 2:4-6 NIV

Listen to Words from the Heart

Walking the Same Way

The International Appalachian Trail in Quebec covers more than 650 kilometres of trails. It starts in the town of Matapedia, then heads towards The Valley to Amqui before reaching the Matane wildlife reserve. It crosses the Parc de la Gaspésie including the Albert and Jacques-Cartier mountains, then descends towards Mont-Saint-Pierre where it follows the sea, from village to village, to Forillon National Park. Ranging from a rural, agricultural setting to steep cliffs and the summits of the Chic-Choc, the trail offers several possibilities for hiking.

I remember a song we used to sing back in my youth. The music is like an earworm, but the words are still the desire of my heart. They say, “I want to walk like, I want to talk like, I want to be like, the Man of Galilee.” These are the same words that the apostle speaks about in 1 John 2:4-6: “Whoever says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” If we truly love Jesus, then we are going to want to be like Him. John says it is the mark that we truly belong to Him. It is the sign that we have been redeemed and our lives have been transformed. In order to walk like Him, live like Him, talk like Him. Let’s examine our lives against Scripture and discover if indeed, we really are like Him.

These have been words from the heart.
