Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 NIV
Casting
2024 Canadian data suggest that over a nine-year period between 2012 and 2020, the equivalent of more than 15 billion plastic bottles and as many as 14 billion grocery bags were cast off by Canadians and became litter in Canada’s environment. StatsCan reported that “more than 348,000 tonnes of plastic waste was permanently discarded in the environment between 2012 and 2020. That includes 30,000 tonnes of plastic bottles and 72,000 tonnes of plastic film, which is used in grocery bags and food wraps.

As people get older, they start to downsize. So many things that we think are important have to go as people move into smaller spaces that don’t hold very much. Thrift stores are filled with precious memories gathered throughout life. Those are hard to cast off. Not everything is as difficult to get rid of. We want to let go of things like shame, anxiety, sin, guilt – we just don’t know how to do that, or who will carry them. If this is where you are, I’ve got the best news. The apostle says this in 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” The very reason that Jesus came, and died, was to lift your sin and guilt and carry your anxiety and care. He loves you dearly and doesn’t want you carrying all that anxiety and pain. He invites you to cast them all off on Him. You don’t need to carry them. Allow Jesus to forgive you – put your trust in Him as your Saviour – and then cast all your care and anxiety on Him. He will replace them with His peace and joy.
These have been words from the heart.
