…for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need.
Philippians 4:16 NIV
Sending Help
In March 2025, following a sharp decline in USAID funding, Canada’s Minister of International Development unveiled $272.1 million dollars in new funding for foreign aid projects in Bangladesh and the Indo-Pacific region. He said, “Canada continues to fiercely strengthen our long-lasting friendship with Bangladesh and the wider Indo-Pacific region with our long-standing people-to-people ties,” Hussen said in a statement. “By supporting vulnerable communities’ healthcare services, empowering women and addressing climate change, we are creating a brighter tomorrow for the global community.”

I will never forget sitting in the Entebbe airport in Uganda, having spent the past week visiting South Sudanese refugee camps in the northern part of this East African nation. My heart was broken for these millions of people who had fled their homeland because of the ongoing civil war. As I was praying “Lord, what can we do?” I looked out the window and saw a steely grey CC-130J Hercules military cargo plane and began to weep as I saw on the side a maple leaf flag and the word Canada. My country was the answer to my prayers – knowing we were doing what we could to help these people. Those of us who follow Jesus must generously support our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. Paul would express his gratitude to the Philippian believers for him in Philippians 4:16: “…for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid more than once when I was in need.” Christian, there are many Pauls in our day who are praying for God’s support. You can be the answer to their prayers. Will you be?
These have been words from the heart.
