Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.

1 Chronicles 16:34 NKJV

Listen to Words from the Heart

God’s Mercy is Everlasting

The day he was alleged to have killed a wounded, unarmed Taliban fighter, Capt. Robert Semrau watched in dismay as stoned Afghan soldiers passed around “King Kong” marijuana joints and carried their rifles like baseball bats. The former Canadian infantry officer, who was at the centre of a national debate over mercy killing in war, has broken his silence in a book that paints a stark, searing portrait of the chaos in the Afghan war.

We all long for mercy, particularly when we know that we have done something wrong. As children, we hope and pray that we aren’t sent to time out, or have privileges removed when we have misbehaved. When we are older, and are stopped by the police for speeding, we hope and pray that we will only get a warning. We hope and pray, but we are never sure. What a contrast to what we will face when we come to our Creator God in humility and repentance for the sins we have committed against Him. Listen to what 1 Chronicles 16:34 says: “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” This truth about God’s nature was written centuries before Jesus’ death and resurrection, which confirms His eternal mercy. God always expresses His mercy to those who come to Him seeking it. No wonder we are commanded to give thanks to Him. We know that no matter what we have done, when we come trusting Jesus and seeking His forgiveness, mercy is assured. It has always been so, and it will be forever. Seek His mercy today and be forgiven.

These have been words from the heart.
