For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you.

1 Thessalonians 2:3 NIV

Pure Motives

There were several motivations behind Canada’s Confederation, including political and economic reasons. Many people had fears surrounding a possible invasion from the United States, particularly during the American Civil War, as the individual colonies lacked the forces necessary to defend themselves. Economic struggles were also a significant factor, as there were challenges in managing the costs of infrastructure and an urgent need to construct railways, which were necessary for transportation and trade at the time. Confederation was also a way for the colonies to come together and form a single government to be free of difficulties from Great Britain.

The number of people who have been caught by scammers is quite frankly frightening. The motive behind scammers is to take your money any way they can. They believe that most people who have been scammed are too embarrassed to report what has just happened. The result is that there is a lack of trust in our world. This makes the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ increasingly difficult. The apostle Paul understood the need for clarity and pure motives when telling others about Jesus. In speaking to the believers in Thessalonica, he says this in 1 Thessalonians 2:3: “For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you.” This is a timely word. We live in an age where persuasion often replaces conviction, and image sometimes outweighs integrity. But God’s work has always advanced to hearts that are clean before Him. When our motives are pure, our message carries weight—not because of polish, but because of authenticity. Share Jesus today, without trickery and with pure motives.

These have been words from the heart.
