The fear of the Lord leads to life;
then one rests content, untouched by trouble.
Proverbs 19:23 NIV
Fear of the Lord
According to the adventureworld.com website, “Canada is a country that creates awe. It has those snow-capped Rocky Mountain peaks, the vast prairies, waterways galore, and forests – ones you can get lost in like the Great Bear Rainforest, roughly the size of Ireland. But it’s not just the scenery, the awe of Canada is that amongst these great landscapes you have some of the friendliest people on earth and excellent eats and drinks to sustain you through all adventures.”

God is holy. When the Bible speaks of Him, sometimes it cries “holy, holy, holy. The triune holiness of God – the Father is holy, the Son is holy, the Spirit is holy.” But there is more to this cry of holy, holy, holy. Hebrew is a language without superlatives, so in order to give something a higher quality, they repeat it. God is not just holy – He is holy, holy, holy. It’s no wonder, then, that when God shows up in the Bible, or even one of His messengers, the first response is always fear. That sense of His awesomeness isn’t a bad thing. King Solomon writes this, in Proverbs 19:23: “The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” When we become aware of the holiness of God and stand in awe of Him, we are driven to live a life that honours His holiness. The more our lives reflect His holiness, the more we walk in holiness. And the more we walk in holiness, the more we rest content, the more peace we have when our heads hit the pillow at night, knowing that all is well. The fear of the Lord really does lead to life.
These have been words from the heart.
