He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;
he causes me to stand on the heights.
Psalm 18:33 NIV
Standing on the Heights

If you’ve ever driven along the Icefields Parkway through Alberta, it is likely you’ve seen the mountain goats perched on the sides of mountains, uniquely created to stand secure on some of the rockiest and most insecure terrain in the country. Even though we know this is their natural terrain, we are amazed at how firm their footing. Human beings aren’t naturally made for rocky land like this, not naturally and not spiritually. When life gets rocky, and we are called to manage some pretty challenging times, we have a wonderful promise in God’s word. Psalm 18:33 says, “He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.” No matter where life takes us, God is able to make us stand firm. In the most difficult of times, God ensures that we have a firm foundation. When we trust Him, we have the assurance He will keep our feet firm. The next time you see a mountain goat in its natural environment, remember that God will hold him fast. No matter what your path is like God will hold you fast too.
These have been words from the heart.
