Transformed
To understand how farming in Canada has transformed since our country was formed in 1867, here are some farming chores listed in that year: Help out at the corn-husking bee, chop and haul wood (okay, some things never change – just how it is done), plow the fields (with a horse drawn plow), sew feed bags, can the vegetables (mason jars had just been invented, but weren’t yet in common use) and in the Fall, head to the logging camps, for some needed winter income.

I remember when Transformers were first introduced to the toy world back in 1984. We were just starting our family, and these were fascinating for little boys, and a young dad. You would take a plastic car, and in a few twists turn it into a robot-like character, then back into a vehicle. It was brilliant engineering. That kind of transformation is nothing, however, compared to the transformation that happens when we turn our lives over to Jesus. This becomes a transformation that continues, day after day, until Jesus calls us to take up residence with Him in His kingdom. After calling Jesus’ followers to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, Paul writes this in Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” God’s desire for those who love Him is to transform us, beginning in our minds, into followers of Jesus who look and live as He did, in complete sync with His perfect will for our lives.
