I thank my God every time I remember you.
Philippians 1:3 NIV
Remembrance of You
This past September, Vancouver Island’s 19 Wing Comox Canadian Forces Base honoured the Canadians who fought in the Battle of Britain, defending its allies from Nazi invasion 85 years ago. From July to October 1940, more than 100 Canadian pilots and roughly 300 Canadian ground crew fought with their allies to protect Great Britain. On the morning of September 21, troops moved into formation outside the Comox Air Force Museum Heritage Air Park, marking the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which occurred during the Second World War.

Perhaps at this time of the year, more than any other, except maybe birthdays, we are aware of how quickly the years go by. Over those years, we have built many friendships, and they have deeply enriched our lives. Each person that God has brought into your life to encourage, direct, mentor, challenge, and help you grow in your faith in Jesus is a gift from God. How often do we take the time to thank these people? Paul the apostle had the privilege to visit so many of the Jesus followers in the first century. He started many of the churches and saw countless men and women come to know Christ. That was the case with the Greek city of Philippi. Acts 16 records his arrival there and meeting Lydia, who became the first convert in Philippi. So, when he writes his letter to the church in that city, he begins by saying, in Philippians 1:3: “I thank my God every time I remember you.” How encouraging that must have been to know that Paul remembered them with thanksgiving. Why don’t you take time today to contact someone whom you remember with thanksgiving and let them know you do.
These have been words from the heart.
