“…and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

Luke 1:33 NIV

Endless Kingdom

The studycountry.com website asks, and answers, the question, “Is Canada a country or a kingdom?” It says, “Canada had established complete sovereignty as an independent country under its own monarchy. Canada has been a monarchy for centuries – first under the kings of France in the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, then under the British Crown in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and now as a kingdom in her own right. The modern Commonwealth is a values-based association of 56 countries, most with historic links to the United Kingdom and home to over 2.5 billion people over five continents.”

When Jesus was born, the Roman Empire was thriving. It covered pretty much the entirety of the shores of the Mediterranean and well into Europe, Asia and Africa. It would last another few centuries, and like all empires before and since, it would fade away, from enemies within and without. There will only be one endless Kingdom. It was established by its King Jesus, and while it has still not reached its fullness, the angel promised that it would last forever. Luke 1:33 says, “…and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” From the simplest of beginnings, what we celebrate at this time of year is the fulfillment of centuries of God’s promises to establish a perfect Kingdom that would have no end. The moment Jesus becomes our Saviour, we become citizens of this Kingdom – the Kingdom of God. We are called to think, act, live, and love as citizens of the Kingdom whose King is Jesus. It isn’t easy – the world’s kingdoms too often pull us away from how we should be. Stand strong in King Jesus, citizen of the endless Kingdom.

These have been words from the heart.
