He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

Isaiah 40:29 NIV

He Gives

The Giving Report from Canada Helps annually examines the state of philanthropic giving in Canada. For the eleventh year running, the number of Canadians making charitable donations has declined. A myriad of issues which include financial strain and the growing generational divide (the “giving gap”) have been putting the squeeze on Canadians’ generosity. At the same time as the number of people donating to charities has decreased, the number of people seeking help from charities has soared: one in five Canadians was using charitable services to meet essential needs.

One of my favourite old hymns tells us that God gives more grace as our burdens grow greater, in fact, He gives and gives and gives again. That is a Biblical principle. The prophet says this in Isaiah 40:29: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” This is one of these Kingdom of God principles – when we are weak, we are strong, when we are weary, we find rest, when we are feeling powerless, His power kicks in. This is all by God’s grace, that provides all that we need to get through tough times. We so often try to accomplish things in our strength and power, and we too quickly find out that we just don’t have the resources. So, when we reach the end of our self, God will step in with His unquenchable power, His grace that never runs out – He really does give and give and give again. No matter what you are facing today, no matter how deep the groans of pain and frustration, ask God for His never-ending grace to meet every need with His resources.

These have been words from the heart.
