Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

Proverbs 13:15 (KJV)

Good Understanding

There are sad, sad stories that are examples of the truth of this verse. Sin never starts out looking bad. It can wear a soft face of temporary pleasure. But, sin will become “hard.” The Lord desires something totally different for each of us. He provides wisdom and understanding. In the fear of the Lord there is favor. What a contrast. What a blessing!

There is an interesting website that helps Canadians understand how our democracy works. The article I found most interesting dealt with the cost of an election. The article says, “Though we say that democracy has no price, the reality is that organizing and conducting a general election, which is a principle expression of democracy, necessarily implies major costs.” And costs are rising. The 2000 federal general election cost taxpayers $200 million dollars. The cost of the federal election held in 2015 was a whopping $375 million.

Understanding how Canadian democracy works is interesting. Understanding how God wants us to live our lives has eternal significance. How often have we seen people make decisions that have brought them nothing but pain and frustration? The Bible understands this and gives this counsel in Proverbs 13:15: “Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.” God knows what’s best for us. He knows what decisions will bring us favour with Him and other people, and what decisions will lead to destruction. God’s word is the foundation of the understanding that Solomon is speaking about here. When we study the Bible we discover all that is necessary for us to have a transformational relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ, and how then we ought to live our lives to honour Him and enjoy favour. The other option is to ignore God’s word and the Bible often speaks to the end result of this. Here it speaks of the hard life that those who reject God’s precepts and principles live. In other places it speaks of it being the way that leads to death. Seek God’s way today and find favour.
