And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Psalm 50:15 (KJV)

Call Upon God

When we experience a wonderful rescue by our Lord, it is not just for our own relief. Yes, we are so very glad to be rid of the threat brought on by our “day of trouble.” However, there is something else that results from the work of the Lord in our lives. Our story is given to bring Him glory!

The Halton Regional Police Service in Ontario has joined with MADD Canada in an effort to stop impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police, the community can play a role in reducing impaired driving cases, deaths and injuries. Campaign 911 is a Canada-wide campaign to encourage and empower the Canadian public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Since it was first introduced in 2007, Lucienne Croghan, president of MADD Halton Chapter, said Campaign 911 has made a tremendous impact reducing impaired driving. He said “Impaired driving is indeed an emergency situation.” Halton’s Deputy Police Chief agrees, saying, “Impaired driving is the number one criminal cause of death in Canada, yet Halton motorists are still making the choice to operate a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs.”

We are blessed when we have someone upon whom we can call when things in life get challenging. The old adage “a friend in need is a friend indeed” is certainly true. It is also a Biblical principle. Psalm 50:15 says this: “And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” What a wonderful promise this is. The Creator God of the universe invites us to call upon Him whenever we are in trouble. God, who is always listening, always loving, always available, has invited His people to call on Him. He is never out of reach. He is never far away. He will never ignore us. He invites us to call on Him. It is better than having the personal cell phone number of the most important person on the planet and being able to call any time. The most important person on earth is limited to space and time, and resources. The Lord God of eternity has no limitation. But there is more. Not only does He invite us to call upon Him, but He gives us a promise. When we do call upon Him, He will provide all we need for the situation we are facing. He promises to deliver us. This is one of the great benefits of belonging to Him through faith in Jesus Christ. If you are in trouble, call to Him in faith.
