Words from the Heart for Wednesday May 18th, 2016

“For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

John 6:40 (NIV)

The Father’s Will

Life forever with God is the greatest blessing of all. The requirement is quite simple: believe in Jesus Christ as God and King. Have you trusted Jesus Christ to be your King and Deliverer?

Every Canadian should have a will. But you need to be careful about a few things. For example, if you’ve got children under 18, you should name a guardian to look after them if something happens. You don’t want the courts to decide where your children go. Choose a friend or relative you trust who shares similar values — and if your kids are old enough, consider consulting them as well. If you don’t have a will, then the government will decide who gets what. In most cases, the surviving spouse inherits the first $200,000 of an estate and the rest would be split between living parents and children. Why not kids first? According to an Estate Lawyer in Toronto, Edward Olkovich, a Toronto-based lawyer, you don’t want children under 18 to own part of the estate. “Imagine having a six-year-old inherit part of a house,” he said. “Try mortgaging that!”

Eternal life is sought after by followers of world religions across the globe. There is within every human heart an innate sense that there is something beyond this life. That hope helps people get through the difficult times of this life. The problem is that while everyone senses there is something beyond this life, most people don’t know what that is, or how it is promised. Religion is man’s attempt to come to terms with this. There is one wonderful exception. Our Creator had birthed in us that longing for eternal life, and knew that we would be frustrated in not knowing what that means and how it is assured. He also knew that because of our sin, the gulf between Him and us was impossible for any human being to cross in our own efforts. So in love, He came to live among us and to remove our sin by His sacrificial death on the cross. And the gift of eternal life is obtained in the words for Jesus in John 6:40: “”For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” Everything that is necessary for us to have eternal life has been provided by Jesus, through His life, death and resurrection. Our role is to believe and put our trust in Him. Have you?
