Words from the Heart for Wednesday March 21st, 2018
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:10 (NKJV)
We can look around us and see the work of the enemy who steals, kills and destroys. How wonderful that the Saviour has come that we can know something totally different. We can have life more abundantly. That is His desire for us now and for all eternity.
Decades after the cod collapse on Canada’s east coast, we still have not recovered our ocean abundance. A recent report outlines the extent to which overfishing and decades of poor management practices continue to impact Canada’s fish populations. The report discovered that only 24% of Canada’s fish stocks are considered healthy and the health of 45% of Canada’s fish stocks cannot be determined due to a lack of data. As well, Canada’s seafood industry, although economically prosperous, is dependent on a small number of shellfish species.
Our culture has become a culture of death. There was a day not long ago when we protected lives from before birth to natural death. Our society respected the Biblical worldview that saw the value of a human being at all stages of life and spoke up for life. That is no longer the case. The Bible is very clear where death finds it source, and where life does. Jesus said in John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” There was no death in the perfect world that God created. It didn’t take long after Adam and Eve allowed sin into their lives that one of their sons killed another. Sin and death have always walked hand in hand. What a difference Jesus makes. He comes to take away the sting of death and offers life, abundant and eternal to all who will receive Him by faith. This is why Christians are so committed to protecting life. Have you experienced the abundant life that Jesus comes to give all who trust in Him?
These have been words from the heart.
