The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

I Corinthians 1:18 (NLT)

The Power of God

Do you remember the very first time you heard the message of salvation? Do you remember how the Spirit convicted you of sin but also made very personal the invitation to give your heart to the Lord? It is wonderful to be saved. Today the Lord is at work among people you are praying for to lead them to this decision, too.

Canada is the world’s second-largest producer of hydroelectricity after China, which accounted for 58% of all electric generation in 2007. Since 1960, large hydroelectric projects, especially in Quebec, British Columbia, Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador, have significantly increased the country’s generation capacity . Canada is the world’s sixth-largest producer of electricity generated by nuclear power producing 97 billion kWh in 2013. In 2007, Canadian per capita power consumption was among the highest in the world, with an average of 16,995 kWh per annum.

The proclamation of the Gospel is accompanied by power. That is the mystery of God’s Word. When you stand up on a pulpit, or share Christ with someone one on one, it is not just you speaking. The Holy Spirit empowers you and at the same time as He is doing so, He is working in the heart of the people, or person, listening to what you are saying. That is the point that Paul makes in 1 Corinthians 1:18: “The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.” To those who do not believe the Good News, the Gospel message is foolish. “How could Jesus death on the cross be impactful in my life?” they ask. But for those of us who have transformed by His grace because of his completed work on the cross, it is the best news ever. And as we share that news with others, the Holy Spirit takes it and applies it to the heart of the listener. The message of the Cross – the power of God unleashed on our world.
