Words from the Heart for Wednesday February 28th, 2018
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
Romans 1:16 (NIV)
I Am Not Ashamed
Sometimes we want to keep quiet about being a Christian. We think that people will reject us if we share our faith with them. But the news of salvation that is possible through Christ Jesus is such good news! Don’t keep it to yourself. Today, let someone know He is offering salvation to them. Don’t let them miss out on this gift.
Stigma is one of the biggest barriers for people with dementia trying to live their lives with dignity in the face of a disease that over time relentlessly and progressively destroys the brain, says the Alzheimer Society of Canada. According to Mary Schulz, the society’s director of education, “What people who have been diagnosed tell us is that after they get over the shock of the diagnosis, as they kind of adjust to that, what they actually find harder is the reaction they get from other people.”
It has never been a popular thing to be a follower of Jesus. Jesus told His followers that in this world they would have tribulation. And that has never been more the case than today, when as the Christian church is growing so quickly, so have those who oppose the Gospel. Thousands of Christians are martyred each year for their faith in Jesus. I have met many who have been beaten simply because they love the Lord. Without exception, they declare that they are not ashamed of being a follower of Jesus and they are more committed than ever to stand up and be counted for the Lord. Paul the apostle gave the same testimony in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” Our culture is increasingly becoming anti-Christian. These are not the times to be shy about our faith. For we know, like Paul, that the Gospel is that power of God that has brought us salvation, the greatest need in our day.
These have been words from the heart.
