If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.
2 Timothy 2:13 (NLT)
He Remains Faithful
Do you feel like you have failed spiritually, as though God might give up on you? Instead of focusing on your struggle, remember that God never gives up. He will not act inconsistent to His nature. So press on! The Lord is faithful and will help you to carry on!
I came across a tongue in cheek website that speaks about things that are uniquely Canadian when it comes to dating. It says things like “Did you and your date show up wearing the same North Face jacket? Probably a good sign. No self-respecting Canadian wastes money on dressing impractically. Flannel is the new black.” It goes on to warn “Chances are you’ve been turned down by a Canadian at least once. You just don’t know it because we’re so charming that they probably made you think you were rejecting them. What can we say – we’re known for our outstanding manners. If we’re not into you, we let you down as politely as possible.” And then “How into hockey you are doesn’t actually matter – just tell us your favorite team.” How Canadian is that!
In a day when our society is moving away from its Biblical foundations and more and more it seems people are doing what seems right in their own eyes, faithfulness is still considered to be an important virtue. Studies show that people highly regard the keeping of marriage vows and people who don’t keep the promises they make are not regarded highly. At the heart of human relationships is the call to faithfulness in a variety of ways. Just the same, people are by nature weak and fallible and we are going to let others down. If you have been hurt in the past by someone who failed to be faithful, don’t become jaded. God is by nature faithful and He will never let you down. The apostle Paul writes this to his young friend Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:13: “If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.” This is a wonderful promise. Too often we are unfaithful to other people and to the Lord. We fail to keep the promises that we make. But it is impossible for God to be unfaithful because He is by nature faithful. No matter how often you have failed to keep the promises you have made to others and to the Lord you never need to wonder if God has given up on you. He has not. And no matter how often you have failed Him, He will never abandon you. Never. I’m Bob Beasley and these have been words from the heart.
