Words from the Heart for Tuesday November 29th, 2016
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)
Everything We Need for a Godly Life
There is nothing you lack today to live a holy, godly life. Know that God has given you His Word, His Spirit, His Church, and His calling to enable you to pursue a holy, godly life today. Thank Him for these good gifts! Ask Him to help you to use these gifts to walk in a way that honours Him.
Internations.org is a website for ex-pats living in countries all over the world, and there is a lot of great information about living in Canada. I found the webpage on driving in Canada quite interesting and informative. For example, did you know that Canada has over one million kilometres of roads, giving Canadians the 7th largest road network in the world? The website says “With more uninhabited territory than inhabited, Canada’s topography covers everything from dense forests to long coastlines, from mountainous terrain to endless prairies. Therefore, driving in Canada is generally indispensable.” The most important road in Canada is the Trans-Canada Highway from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia. At around 8,000 km in length, it is also the longest federal point-to-point road in the world.
God is the Great Provider. In fact, the Bible tells us in Genesis 22:14 that one of God’s names is Yahweh Yireh, the Lord who provides. In this case it was used by Abraham when God had provided a ram as a sacrifice in place of Isaac. But the name speaks volumes about God’s nature. He is the Provider who supplies all we need. The book of James tells us that every good and perfect gift comes from above, from the Father of the heavenly lights who does not change like shifting shadows. God had provided Jesus as our Saviour and Redeemer, the greatest gift of all. But He also provides everything else that we need for life to have purpose and meaning. 2 Peter 1:3 says “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” One of the marks of the life of a follower of Jesus whose life has been transformed by His grace is a desire to live a life that honours God. Religion demands human effort to try to appease the deity of that religion. The Christian life is marked by God’s enabling. He provides everything we need. We simply take hold of it by faith. If you love the Lord Jesus, He has provided everything you need to live a godly life. Take hold of it today by faith.
These have been words from the heart.
