Words from the Heart for Tuesday November 14th, 2017
By wisdom a house is built. Through understanding it is made secure. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with priceless and beautiful things.
Proverbs 24:3-4 (NIRV)
Building a House
This house being built is really our life. Much expense and detail is given to the building of fine homes. This house or life, built by the Master Builder, speaks of materials such as wisdom and understanding which secure the construction. Then, the new home is fully furnished with costly treasures. That’s the description of our life when we allow the Lord to bring us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Thank you, Lord.
Those who predicted a slump in housing starts in Canada in 2017 got it wrong, at least in the beginning of this year. Ontario saw a strong increase on ground breaking of new homes in January, partly due to the unseasonably warm winter the province enjoyed. The seasonally adjusted annualized rate of Canadian housing starts rose to 207,408 units from 206,305 in December, according to the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Economists had expected starts to decline to 200,000. Condominium construction led the way.
Lots of planning goes into building a house. So many details to consider both before construction begins, and throughout. Having wise counsel throughout is very helpful, so that by the time the house is completed, everyone involved is pleased. It has always been the case. As far back as Proverbs 24:3-4 King Solomon speaks of these same things. He wrote, “By wisdom a house is built. Through understanding it is made secure. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with priceless and beautiful things.” While all of this is true of building a physical house, Solomon is really speaking about the spiritual house that each of us builds and he says there are three important virtues – wisdom, understanding and knowledge. The beginning of wisdom is a recognition of God’s existence and His desire for relationship through Christ. As we grow in grace our understanding of what the Lord desires to do in our lives deepens. Finally, as we study His word, we gain knowledge of who the Lord is and what His will is for our lives. Upon this we build a spiritual house that will be a blessing to us and the Lord.
These have been words from the heart.
