Words from the Heart for Tuesday July 25th, 2017
Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Psalm 100:3 (NKJV)
The Lord Made Us
This wonderful God that we serve made us. We are not the ones who can live as if there is no God. We are His people. We owe everything to Him. If today you are tempted to live independently of Him, pray for a new heart to follow and depend on Him. He will not let us down. It is not a thing of weakness to say, “I need the Lord.”
Until last month, Cycling Canada’s bikes for its road, track and para-cycling teams were made in France. But on June 16 Argon 16 announced that it will be the official supplier to Cycling Canada through the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Montreal-based company was founded in 1989 by Gervais Rioux and his brother Martin. Gervais Rioux won Canadian road race championships in 1985 and 1987 and competed for Canada at the 1988 Olympics as well as the 1982 and 1986 Commonwealth Games. When Rioux announced the agreement, he said “As a Canadian company, it was natural for us to become a sponsor of the team. The possibility was there.” Cycling Canada’s CEO Pierre Lafontaine agreed, saying, “Made in Canada is central to our identity. Our program and our athletes can be among the best in the world with homemade, home-dreamed and home-supported world class bikes.”
Increasingly, we are taught that as human beings we are simply the product of chance, or at least natural selection. The Bible tells us something altogether different. It tells us that we are created by a loving God who still cares about us, and has done everything necessary to guarantee a relationship with us. King David didn’t doubt where human beings came from. In Psalm 100:3 he writes: “Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” David’s main point here is that the Lord who had revealed Himself to the Hebrew patriarchs is the one true God of the universe. As he puts it, the Lord is God. Israel was surrounded by nations with their own gods, and David is arguing that in reality they are no gods at all – only Adonai, as the Hebrew puts it – the Lord as it is translated into English is God. And God is proven to be God because He is the creator of the world and of human beings. Because He is, then we are His people. We belong to Him, and He cares for us like a shepherd cares for His sheep. Unlike the gods of the nations around, who are no gods at all, the Lord cares for His people, because He created us.
These have been words from the heart.
