Words from the Heart for Tuesday January 30th, 2018

Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you—the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground—so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number on it.

Genesis 8:17 (NIV)

Be Fruitful and Increase

When the floodwaters had dried sufficiently the Lord directed Noah to release the animals once again back into their place. His directions to Noah included the repeating of the same blessing upon the animal kingdom as on the sixth day when they were created. The Lord had worked a wonder to make sure they had a future.

In Canada, fowl, poultry, eggs, chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys are part of a system of supply management. Under supply management, production is limited, prices are raised, and competition is severely curtailed, raising profits for farmers through artificially high prices for poultry and eggs paid by consumers. There are around 3,000 poultry farmers and 1,000 egg farmers in Canada. Dairy farming in Canada is also restricted under the system of supply management. There are around 13,000 dairy farmers in Canada.

One of the Biblical principles that begins in the book of Genesis and continues throughout the Bible is that of fruitfulness. We see it clearly at the end of the flood, as Noah leads the animals off the ark. In Genesis 8:17 we read “Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you—the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground—so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number on it.” God had a post-flood plan. The animals that had survived the flood were to be fruitful and fill the earth. They left the ark and traveled to the regions of the world where they were designed to dwell, and they increased in number. God has built into the DNA of every living part of His creation the ability and desire to reproduce. It is a sign of His care for His planet and for every living being. It is also a symbol of His plan for the redemption of the world. He builds into the spiritual DNA of every believer the desire to be fruitful for His kingdom. How is this manifesting in your life?
