Words from the Heart for Tuesday February 7th, 2017
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.
Psalm 22:27-28 (NIV)
Dominion Belongs to the Lord
Jesus gave His life on the cross that all people everywhere can know Him as Saviour. All over the world men, women, and children are being saved. He has the rightful place as Lord over all people. Ask the Lord to show you a specific nation to pray for today. He has power to save people there and longs to be their personal Lord.
Until July 9, 1982, Canada Day was known as Dominion Day, and according to the CBC, the name was changed under “murky procedural circumstances.” Here is how the Ottawa Citizen recorded the change at the time: “At 4 o’clock on Friday, July 9, 1982, the House of Commons was almost empty. The 13 parliamentarians taking up space in the 282-seat chamber were, by most accounts, half asleep as they began Private Members’ Hour. But then one of the more wakeful Liberals noticed the Tory MPs were slow to arrive in the chamber. Someone — exactly who has never been firmly identified — remembered Bill C-201, a private member’s bill from Hal Herbert, the Liberal MP from Vaudreuil, that had been gathering dust ever since it had received first reading in May of 1980. “An Act to Amend the Holidays Act” proposed to change the name of the July 1 national holiday from “Dominion Day” to “Canada Day.” The whole process took five minutes.
God gave the Hebrew Scriptures to the people of Israel and in times when they were walking with God, they would study and memorize His Word. So much so that when someone would read the first line of a Psalm, they would think of the rest of it. Psalm 22 is Messianic. Jesus quoted the first line from the Cross – my God, my God why have you forsaken me? While the Psalm focuses on that moment on the Cross when Jesus was bearing the sin of the world and God the Father turned His face away from His own Son, the Psalm actually ends in victory. For the joy set before Him Jesus endured the Cross the Bible says. What is that joy? The answer is found in Psalm 22:27-28: “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations.” Jesus’ death on the Cross has resulted in millions of transformed, redeemed lives from every tribe, nation and language. He rules over the hearts of men and women, youth and children from every corner of the planet. All dominion belongs to the Lord and soon He will rule over the nations.
These have been words from the heart.
