Words from the Heart for Tuesday April 17th, 2018
Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man. And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; Bring forth abundantly in the earth And multiply in it.
Genesis 9:6-7 (NKJV)
Why Murder is So Wrong
As the Lord opened the door of the ark and released those whom He had saved from destruction, He spoke the words that would be necessary for them to live safe, productive lives. We cannot break the Lord’s commands without suffering. His desire is that we walk in His ways and find fullness in our lives.
Homicides account for a small proportion of all police reported violent Criminal Code offences in Canada, representing less than 0.2% in 2016. Homicide continues to be a relatively rare occurrence in Canada. Police reported 611 homicide victims in Canada in 2016, two more than the previous year and the highest number of homicides reported since 2008. Despite an increase in the number of homicide victims, the homicide rate decreased by 1% from the previous year to 1.70 per 100,000 population.
God detests murder. When God created the world, there was no death. No human experienced death until after sin entered into the human heart and Cain killed his brother Abel. What a shock that must have been to their parents – the first parents to experience the deep pain of losing a child. Human beings were created in the image of God – and when sin came, it marred that image. But death ends the image. The Bible speaks of this in Genesis 9:5-7: ““Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man. And as for you, be fruitful and multiply; Bring forth abundantly in the earth And multiply in it.” God spoke these words to Noah following the flood. As he and his family set out to populate the world, God gave these instructions. They are important to God. Jesus would shed more light on this in His teaching about Satan. He says that the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. Murder comes from the Enemy himself – in an attempt to destroy the image of God in men and women.
These have been words from the heart.
