Words from the Heart for Thursday September September 28th, 2017

Where there is no guidance, a nation falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.

Proverbs 11:14 (NRSV)

Abundance of Counselors

The Word of the Lord is the best possible guidance. We are not left to only learn via trial and error. Ask the Lord to show you those whom He has put in your life to provide godly counsel. Pray for our nation today that wise, righteous counselors will influence our leaders. Be ready to give godly counsel to others in your circle of influence, too.

Genetics play a significant role in many diseases, which is why in Canada visits to genetic counselors are covered under your province’s health insurance plan. Included in this is a visit to a genetic counselor. Genetic counsellors identify individuals and/or families who may have or be at risk for a genetic condition. They work as members of a healthcare team, providing individuals and families with information on the nature, inheritance, and implications of genetic disorders to help them make informed medical and personal decisions.

Wise people seek out the counsel of wise people. Those who think they know everything, and don’t need anyone else’s advice don’t make the best leaders. I have been blessed to work with some incredible leaders over the years. Even the most experienced have wisely sought the counsel of others, those with a different viewpoint on an issue, or with different gifts and abilities. It has helped these leaders make wise and considered decisions. King Solomon took note of this too. In Proverbs 11:14 he wrote: “Where there is no guidance, a nation falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” If you are facing a decision, take time to seek wise counsel. It begins by seeking God’s counsel through his Word. Never make a decision without seeking the principles and precepts that God has laid out there. But then seek godly counsel from people God has put in your life who can help you look at the situation from a different perspective or out of experiences that you don’t have. The Lord will reveal His will and will guide you in your decision if you will seek it diligently.

These have been words from the heart.
