Words from the Heart for Thursday March 16th, 2017
For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
Romans 5:17 (NIV)
God’s Abundant Provision
The Bible tells us that sin had entered the world through one man. And, by one man, our precious Lord Jesus, death was conquered and no longer reigns over all. Now we can share in the grace provided for us through the cross. We can live a life of victory now and have eternal life forever.
In 2012, an estimated 1.9 million young Canadians, or 27% of the population aged 15 to 29, provided some form of care to a family member or friend with a long-term health condition, disability, or aging needs. Rates of caregiving were consistently higher among young women. In total, an estimated 31% of women under the age of 30 provided care, compared to 24% of young men. Ailing grandparents were the most frequent recipients of young caregivers’ help. In 2012, four in ten young caregivers reported primarily helping their grandparent over the past year. Parents were the next most common group, with 27% of young caregivers looking after the needs of their parent. While less common, 14% of young caregivers reported helping friends or neighbours, and 11% had provided some form of help to a sibling or extended family member.
What a blessing to know that people care enough to provide for the needs of those who cannot properly care for themselves. Sometimes it is more difficult to accept the care than offer it. That is often the case when it comes to all that the Lord Jesus offers us. He has provided all that we need to have a relationship with Him and to have sins forgiven and peace with God. The apostle Paul writes this in Romans 5:17: “For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!” Sin is the great destroyer. It destroys lives, relationships, hopes and dreams. It has led to illness, death and destruction. And it all came into the world because the first couple allowed sin into their lives and that sin was unleashed upon the world. By the trespass of one man, Paul says, death has reigned. For thousands of years it looked as though this was to be the lot of the mankind and this world forever. But God had another plan. Jesus would come and by His death and resurrection, eternal life would be available to all who believed. Paul says they receive God’s abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness. Through Jesus. Have you received that provision for your life?
