Words from the Heart for Thursday June 29th, 2017
But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, “The Lord is great!”
Psalm 70:4 (NIV)
May All Who Seek You Rejoice
Praise to the Lord is beginning even before the need is met! We can come at any time and lift up our praise to the Lord. He is reliable. His saving help is always there. Let us start off by declaring, “The Lord is great!”
As we approach Canada’s 150th birthday on July 1, we continue our biographies of Canada’s Fathers of Confederation. Some Canadian families have a long and storied political history. Such is the case of Father of Confederation William Steeves. Born in Hillsborough, New Brunswick in 1814, Steeves was a businessman, running a small store and lumber exporting business. He moved to St. John and quickly became a leader in the city’s financial community. Leading up to Confederation, Steeves served in a number of portfolios in the provincial government of fellow Father of Confederation, Leonard Tilley. A strong proponent of a united Canada, Steeves was appointed to the first Canadian Senate in 1867. As for the long political lineage, William Steeves was the maternal great grand uncle of the late NDP leader Jack Layton.
I love happy people. Hearing them share the reasons for their joy never grows old. I love hearing stories of babies born, happy marriages, job promotions, milestones in life. Thankfully, all of us have times in our lives filled with joy. King David had a lot of these moments in his life and most of them came when God had intervened and brought about great blessing. David had learned from his own experience, and watching others, that when a person genuinely seeks the Lord, he is soon rejoicing in all the blessings that the Lord pours out on him. In Psalm 70:4 we read “But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, ‘The Lord is great!’” This is a prayer that will surely be answered. For all who seek the Lord end up with so many reasons to rejoice. God forgives, heals, empowers, delivers, blesses, provides and reveals Himself to every heart that longs for Him. All who seek the Lord to save them find that He lifts the burden of sin and shame and fills the human heart with peace, which naturally leads to joy. If you want true joy, reach out in faith to the Lord Jesus. Ask Him to replace your sin with His forgiving presence in your life and as the shame and guilt is lifted, it will be replaced with inexpressible joy.
These have been words from the heart.
