Words from the Heart for Thursday January 18th, 2018
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Psalm 90:12 (KJV)
Numbering Our Days
Every day is a day He has created. Every day is a gift from the Lord. He has promised to meet our needs on a daily basis. And, He will direct our paths throughout each day. We can walk in His wisdom through our days. We can know blessing and be without regrets. Ask Him for wisdom for this day.
Back on June 25 of last year, to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, CTV aired a program called Canada in a Day. The previous September 10th Canadians grabbed their cameras and filmed their lives. Over 16,000 videos were collected from people from coast to coast to coast. Canada In A Day was a unique snapshot of one 24-hour period in the life of Canadians from coast to coast. From these individual stories came a film that has become a time capsule for Canada.
Life goes by far too quickly. Days, weeks, months and years seem to fly by and in the blink of an eye we find we are closer to the grave than the womb. King David understood this and counseled this in Psalm 90:2: “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” None of us know when the end of our lives will come. So we are called to live each day with eternity in mind. Yet, few people do this. Most live as if life has no end and as if there is no God to whom they will have to give account. But life does come to an end. Unless the Lord Jesus returns first, none of us will avoid the grave. We would be wise to heed the wisdom of David, to live each day with the awareness of the brevity of life. How differently would you live your life today if you knew that it was your last day, your last week, your last month? How would your priorities be different today and how differently would you treat others?
These have been words from the heart.
