Words from the Heart for Thursday February 8th, 2018
Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.
Genesis 2:7 (NLT)
The Scriptures take time to give us details about the amazing way God created us. What a miracle we are. Science today confirms that in our physical make-up we are indeed formed from the same material as the dust of the ground. But, we are set apart because not only are we made in the image of our Creator but also because He breathed into us the breath of life.
On average, people take more than 21,600 breaths a day, yet we don’t always think about the quality of the air we are breathing. The AirGenius Awards set out to ‘clear the air’ by assessing Canada’s cities based on specific criteria related to air quality. So where can you find the cleanest air in Canada? In short, the answer is British Columbia. The awards, evaluated by scientists at the global consulting firm Environmental Health & Engineering, recognized British Columbia metropolitan areas in the top four, with Langley in first place.
The first chapter of the Bible tells the story of God’s creation of the world. The second chapter focuses on the creation of men and women. Genesis 2:2 says, “Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.” The world tells us that there is nothing particularly special about human kind. We are just like every other member of the animal kingdom. But the Bible says something altogether different. God doesn’t breathe His life into the nostrils of any other animal. There is a profound and lovely truth in this verse. The very breath of God filled the lungs of Adam and Eve. He lovingly crafted the first man from the dust of the earth and then His breath fills their lungs. We would learn later that our life is in Him and He still breathes life into all who would place their faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in all who have been redeemed by the blood of God the Son.
These have been words from the heart.
