Heritage Canada The National Trust (formerly known as the Heritage Canada Foundation) is a registered charity with the mandate to inspire and lead action to save historic places, and promote the care and wise use of our historic environment. The National Trust oversees three properties, two in Quebec and one in Ontario. In Quebec, one is the Papineau Chapel, a stone memorial chapel built in 1851 by Louis-Joseph Papineau, on the grounds of the Chateau Montebello in the town of Montebello. It is Heritage Canada’s first property, having been acquired in 1974. The other is 11 rue de l’Ancien-Chantier, two adjacent buildings erected in 1670, in the Lower Town of Quebec City. The property in Ontario is the Myrtleville House, a two-storey structure built in Brantford between 1837 and 1838. Originally owned by Allen and Eliza Good, the house was occupied by four generations of their family until 1978.

The most secure buildings last a long time because of the foundation upon which they are built. Just a few weeks ago we were speaking with a home builder and looking at house plans. One plan particularly caught his attention and he spoke about how interesting the foundation would be to construct because of the number of different walls and angles. The foundation of a structure is critical. This is so in the physical and even more so in the spiritual. The prophet writes this in Isaiah 33:6: “He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.” When Isaiah looked forward to the coming of the Messiah he saw that this chosen one would become the foundation for many. In fact, the history of Western Civilization has its foundation on the truths of God’s Word. So the foundation that the Messiah would be was not only for individual lives but for the development of solid, prosperous nations as well. Jesus is the sure foundation for our times as well. He certainly has provided a rich store of salvation for millions around the world and He provides the wisdom and knowledge that people need for their personal lives and for political and business leadership as well. Jesus is a sure foundation for our times.
