And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”

Luke 1:35 (NKJV)

The Son of God

The angel brings Mary the answer to her question, “How?” It will only be possible by work the of the Holy Spirit coming upon her. The very power of the Highest will be required for the miracle. Our part in the Lord’s plan is totally different than Mary’s. However, we still require the power of the Lord.

The sons of a Russian couple who fraudulently acquired Canadian citizenship before being arrested for espionage in the United States, are seeking to reinstate their Canadian citizenship, which was annulled when their parents were found to be Russian spies. While the boys were born in Canada, their parents entered Canada in the late 1980s using fake English-sounding names. Their Canadian passports had been forged by the KGB, the Soviet Union’s primary external intelligence agency. The Canadian Federal Court of Appeals recently found in the boys’ favour.

The God of the Bible is the God of revelation. It is one of the unique aspects of the Christian faith. The entire Bible is the revelation of God the Creator to the world He made and loves. While sin hides God from us, God desires to be known by all. When we trust Him and read the Bible with a believing heart, we get to know Him. He is happy to reveal His nature and His plan, if we simply ask. When Mary was told she was going to bear the son of God — Jesus — she asked a simple question in faith, “How is this possible, since I am a virgin?” She knew this was going to take a miracle. And because she asked in faith, God told her. We read this in Luke 1:35: “And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” If you desire to know God’s plan for your life, ask Him in faith.
