Words from the Heart for Sunday September 25th, 2016
From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:16 (NIV)
Built Up Together In Love
Our relationships, to Christ and to other Christians, are connected. Christ, the head of the Church, gives clear instructions on how the rest of the body can grow in love. Are we loving our brothers and sisters in Christ? Are we living as the head has commanded? Are we seeing our church family flourish in love? Love Christ by following His commands, and your church family will be blessed!
A group of Toronto artists worked hard to make the Canadian village at the recent Rio Olympics feel more like home for our athletes. The artists had flown down to Rio to ensure that their artwork was in place prior to the arrival of the athletes. June Tran is one of them. She grew up watching the games on television but had never been to an Olympic village before. Tran is part of Moss & Lam studios where some of the artwork for Canada Olympic House was conceived. She got to help with the installation and see the final product in person and said “It’s better than I imagined. In real life the impact is way more than when you see a little 3D model on your screen.” They brought Canada to life in Rio.
Jesus has a great plan for His Church, which the Bible also calls the Body of Christ. So often believers seem divided and at odds with one another. This is because there is a spiritual battle going on in the heavenly realm with the Enemy not wanting God’s people to get along. He does everything in his power to cause dissention within the Body of Christ. Your fellow Christian is not your foe. Jesus, knowing that there would be a battle in the spiritual realm that would manifest itself in the Body of Christ prayed for the unity of those who would become His followers. And in Ephesians 4:16 Paul the apostle speaks about what Jesus is doing to maintain that unity. He writes “From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” There is a role that Jesus had in maintaining the unity of the Body of Christ and a role that each of us has as well. He is working behind the scene, making sure that the Body is held together by the ligaments of His grace and provision. He is the glue that holds us all together. We are then called to put into practice the gifts that He has given to each of us for the sake of the Body. Are you using your gifts to serve the Body of Christ?
These have been words from the heart.
