And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.

2 Timothy 1:10 (NLT)

The Way to Life and Immortality

Our world is waiting to hear this Good News that our Lord Jesus Christ, through His work on the cross, broke the power of death. He now shows us the way to eternal life. Aren’t you glad someone told you! Don’t keep this wonderful message to yourself. The Lord can use you today to tell someone else.

Back in 2008, Mengxuan Annie Xu drafted a study about the mental health of Canadian immigrants for her Master’s Thesis. The study showed that even for the best prepared immigrant, moving to Canada is a potentially disruptive and stressful experience. Difficulties overcoming the challenges of dealing with a new culture and language, can affect immigrants’ long-term prospects of performing in the labour market. A Statistics Canada report complements Xu’s work, stating that two-thirds of university-educated recent immigrants are overeducated for their current jobs. In 2008, 42 percent of all immigrants to Canada aged 25 to 54 had higher levels of education than their jobs require. Skilled immigrants to Canada arrive with a sense of adventure and optimism, only to be beaten down by sometimes insurmountable barriers to meaningful employment.

The world is marked by death. We are bombarded daily by reports of murder, suicide and accidental death. Not a single family has ever escaped the grief brought on by the death of a loved one. As heartbreaking as death is for us, there is nothing any of us can do about it. But God is able to, and He has. He knew even before He created a perfect world that sin would mar His creation and death would be the ultimate result. The reason that Jesus came was to cancel the power of sin and to defeat death. Paul the apostle speaks to this in 2 Timothy 1:10: “And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.” Until Jesus came death was victorious. There was no hope and no knowledge of what, if anything, lay beyond the grave. But when Jesus came, died and rose from the tomb, the power of death was broken and the way to eternal life became obvious. We know, now, what lies beyond the grave. For the follower of Jesus, it is the promise of eternity with Him in Glory. No wonder Paul describes this as the Good News. There is none better. Have you experienced the joy of sins forgiven and the assurance of eternal life? You can by trusting Jesus Christ as your Saviour.
