Words from the Heart for Sunday March 18th, 2018

…He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Hebrews 2:14-15 (NKJV)

The Devil Defeated

It was a wonderful plan of God that He would use death itself as the very instrument to defeat His enemy. Death and the fear of death brings people into great bondage. His enemy is our enemy, too. His victory is our victory, too! The power of death was broken when He died and then rose victorious from the grave.

The 1st Special Service Force, also known as The Devil’s Brigade and Freddie’s Fighters, was an elite American-Canadian commando unit in World War 2, under the command of the United States Fifth Army. The unit was organized in 1942 and trained at Fort William Henry near Helena, Montana. The Force served in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and fought in Italy and southern France before being disbanded in December 1944. The modern American and Canadian special operations forces trace their heritage to this unit.

I have never met anyone who was in jail and didn’t know it. As the gates are slammed behind you and you are led to your cell, it is pretty obvious that you are no longer a free person. I have visited prisons in developing countries, however, and have met children who were born to mothers in those prisons. They have spent their entire lives in prison – they have no idea what it means to be free. That is the spiritual condition of all who don’t know Jesus Christ as Saviour. They are imprisoned in their sin and don’t even know it. But Jesus has come to set them free! Hebrews 2:14-15 says: “…He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” Satan holds the unredeemed in the prison of their sin. Jesus came to set them free. When Jesus burst forth from the tomb on that first Resurrection morning, death was defeated and Satan lost hold of those he had held in slavery. Have you experienced Jesus’ release from bondage?

These have been words from the heart.
