Words from the Heart for Sunday January 21st, 2018
And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.
John 3:19 (NLT)
God’s Light Came Into the World
Our God is Lord of the day and the night. It is so sad to read this verse and realize that when someone chooses sin they are wanting to be hidden away and covered by darkness. Yet no one can hide from our God. His love is there. Pray in confidence today for at least three people that you know are hurting themselves by attempting to hide.
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, throws an all night party, if you can call it night, on the summer solstice each June, a night when the sun doesn’t set. The party is called Raven Mad Daze, and a few years ago I got to take part in the celebrations. Roads are closed to traffic as thousands party in the streets. Visitors enjoy the Inuit and Dene singers, drummers, and dancers and Inuit throat singers. Artists and artisans display their arts and crafts.
In the beginning of the book of Genesis, where we see the record of God’s creative power. And what is most noticeable is the moment that the light penetrates the darkness. It begins with the presence of God, who is pure light. And before long, God creates the sun to provide energy and warmth and life and then He creates the moon to reflect the sun and give gentle light at night, as well as tides and stability to the earth’s rotation. All of this is physical, but it points to the spiritual light that God provides as well. John 3:19 says “And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil.” God wants to shine into your heart with His life and love. When He comes into our lives by faith in Jesus Christ, the darkness of our sin flees as the light of His holiness and purity invades. And with His light comes the joy of freedom from guilt and shame. Has the light of His love flooded your life by faith?
