Words from the Heart for Sunday January 14th, 2018
Then God said, “Let the land produce plants. Let them produce their own seeds. And let there be trees on the land that grow fruit with seeds in it. Let each kind of plant or tree have its own kind of seeds.” And that’s exactly what happened.
Genesis 1:11 (NIRV)
It’s Own Kind of Seed
When the Lord created the earth He built in the ongoing fruitfulness. Every piece of fruit from every tree contains seed. Every plant, too, has some form of multiplying life after itself. Oh what a wise Creator He is.
Heritage seeds are becoming more common in Canada as Canadian farmers and gardeners are seeking after unique plants, fruits and vegetables. There are hundreds of varieties that you will never find in your neighbourhood grocery store – with names like Green Delicious Squash, Lazywife Bean, Cosmonaut Volkov Tomato. There is also the Amish Bottle Onion, Golden Gopher Melon, and Giganteum Poppy. I promise I am not making these names up – the seeds are available now online, ready for planting this spring.
The life of everything is in the seed. When God created the world, He designed every living thing with a specific DNA and then He created the ability to reproduce itself by building into the seed the DNA of that specific plant or species. While the author of the book of Genesis didn’t understand the science of DNA, he did recognize that you never planted an apple seed and expected to get a peach tree. So he wrote in Genesis 1:12: “Then God said, “Let the land produce plants. Let them produce their own seeds. And let there be trees on the land that grow fruit with seeds in it. Let each kind of plant or tree have its own kind of seeds.” And that’s exactly what happened. God is the great horticulturist. In the minutest of details He built in the structure of each every living thing. Thousands of years after creation, humankind is still trying to figure it all out. God created life from nothing and did it with such precision. He cares just as much for every detail of your life. Trust Him in this today.
These have been words from the heart.
