Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

Psalm 29:2 (NKJV)

In the Beauty of Holiness

In several psalms we are directed to “give unto the Lord the glory due to His name.” We will not run out of things to praise Him for. He is worthy of our worship. Be specific with your praise to Him. Give Him your thanks and worship. All of this and more is due to Him. What is on your list today?

Last month CNN.com published its list of 20 most beautiful places in Canada. Some are well known. Others are not. Tombstone Territorial Park is a 2200 square kilometer park, located 90 minutes from Dawson City, Yukon. It is filled with rugged peaks, permafrost landforms and wildlife and the Yukon government advises that you leave a hiking plan with the local police. Iceberg viewing is popular from the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland. On a sunny spring or summer day you will almost certainly be able to see these glacial giants as they float by. Minnesota is proud to be the state of 10,000 lakes and their license plates make sure everyone know about it. You may be surprised to learn that the province of Saskatchewan has over 100,000 lakes, many of them quite beautiful.

The religions practiced by the nations around ancient Israel were marked by horrific acts of violence and perversion. Child sacrifice, temple prostitution and self-mutilation were common in the worship of the idols and false gods of these pagan nations. These gods were angry and demanded horrible acts to try to appease them. The God of Israel called His people to worship Him in the beauty of holiness. This was a holy God who was not wanting to destroy His people but to purify them. His desire was not for them to live in fear of Him, but to draw them to Himself. He had set a plan in place whereby He would be the sacrifice, He would bear their sin, so that they would not have to. So that we do not have to. God’s requirement is holiness and He has provided all that we need to stand before Him pure and holy. King David wrote this in Psalm 29:2: “Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” God’s plan that came to fulfillment in Jesus Christ is to create worshippers and in order for us to worship, to enter into His presence, we must be holy. Only as we trust Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the Cross in our place, is this possible. Have you trusted Him? Have you experienced His love and grace? If so, then worship Him today in the beauty of His holiness.
