Words from the Heart for Sunday December 11th, 2016
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)
Seeking and Finding
Just like young children love to give away their location to their parents in hide-and-go-seek, so our heavenly Father is eager to reveal Himself to you. Have your eyes wide open and seek Him in His Word and prayer, in your worship and your work, and see how God is at work all around you!
The number of Canadians who are leaving Canada for medical treatments has been declining for the past number of years. According to the Fraser Institute about one percent of Canadian patients who received treatment from a specialist in 2015 got that treatment outside of Canada. The report estimates that percentage translates into 45,619 Canadians, slightly lower when compared with the 52,513 who went abroad for medical treatments in 2014, but higher than the 41,838 in 2013. The report does not break down the numbers to determine how many Canadians went to the U.S. for treatment, but just refers to those who have received treatment in another country. The report focuses on 12 types of specialist treatments such as urology, neurosurgery and plastic surgery, but does not explain why Canadians chose to travel abroad — just that they did.
Human beings have been seeking God since the beginning of time. Even those who don’t recognize this are in fact seeking the satisfaction that God alone can give. Most look in all the wrong places – entertainment, sex, drugs and alcohol – and not surprisingly don’t find the satisfaction they long for. Others look in spirituality and religions and don’t find satisfaction there either. Back in the 17th century, Blaise Pascal wrote: “What else does this craving, and this helplessness, proclaim but that there was once in man a true happiness, of which all that now remains is the empty print and trace? This he tries in vain to fill with everything around him, seeking in things that are not there the help he cannot find in those that are, though none can help, since this infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words by God himself.” Our Creator God understands this and Jeremiah 29:13 says “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” God does not want to remain aloof from His creation. He longs for relationship with us – He longs to fill that God-sized emptiness in each and every soul. When a person reaches out in faith to Jesus Christ, He comes in and fills the void that is just His size. The result is peace and joy and hope. And best of all, love.
These have been words from the heart.
