Words from the Heart for Saturday September 9th, 2017
For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths.
Proverbs 5:21 (NIV)
In Full View
Have you ever heard a voice telling you, “Go ahead. Nobody will know”? The real proof of who we are is in what we do when we think no one is looking! Our “secret sins” are not secret at all. The eyes of the Lord can always see. The Lord sees our actions and even the inside motivation of our hearts. It is very healthy to remember that we are protected from much temptation when we acknowledge that the Lord sees everything.
Canada is a country of incredible beauty and in many parts of the country there is a stunning view around every corner. One of the most beautiful examples is the Icefield Parkway that stretches 234 kilometres from Banff to Jasper Alberta. The Parkway passes more than 100 ancient glaciers as well as waterfalls and stunning emerald lakes. These include some of the most famous and popular sites – Lake Louise, Peyto Lake and the Columbia Icefields – along with herds of bighorn sheep.
One of the greatest fears that children have is that their parents will not be there for them when they face something challenging or when a difficult time comes. For a child, having parents to look out for them brings great peace and consolation. While human beings do get older, and much more self-sufficient, there is still a sense that when life gets challenging, we long to know that someone who loves us is looking out for us. King Solomon understood this human longing and so writes this in Proverbs 5:21: “For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths.” For the man or woman of God, this is a great promise. God is watching over our lives, keeping us from danger and on the right path. Now, for the person who isn’t a follower of Jesus, I can see that the fact God is watching over them can be a frightening thing. Sin brings enough self-guilt and shame without knowing that God, who is the judge, knows everything about a person. But for the man or woman who loves the Lord Jesus, this truth brings great peace and joy.
