Words from the Heart for Saturday October 8th, 2016

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; … For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Isaiah 43:2-3 (NIV)

God’s Abiding Presence

In our distress, it can feel like we are alone or as though no one else understands. God does not promise a trouble-free life; rather, He promises to be with us. Therefore, He is working in you. Pray that these trials might keep you dependent upon Him.

According to a Canadian Press report this past July The Head of NATO has singled out Canada with praise for agreeing to take a leadership role in the standoff with Russia. Speaking in Brussels, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Canada’s promise to lead a 1,000−strong force in Eastern Europe sends a clear signal that the alliance is strong and united. “”This is a great contribution to our common security, and a clear signal that our nations will defend one another on both sides of the Atlantic,”” Stoltenberg said in a press conference held days before NATO leaders, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, met at a summit in Warsaw. The federal government announced that Canada would join Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States in leading a 4,000−strong NATO reassurance force in the Baltics and Poland.

One of the greatest gifts a spouse, parent or friend can give is the gift of their presence. When we are lonely or hurting or wanting a companion for a vacation or shopping trip, having someone to go with us is a great blessing. There are a few things that make the Christian faith unique and one of those is the abiding presence of God. The God of the Christian faith is not removed from us. As the Creator of the world, His desire is have a close and intimate relationship with us. Isaiah the prophet wrote this in Isaiah 49:23: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; … For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” This is one of the most beautiful promises in all of Scripture. No matter what we are facing today, God is with us. In the most challenging experiences we face in this fallen world, God promises to be with us. When Jesus the Messiah was announced, the Bible says that His name is Immanuel – God with us. This is greatest companionship we can ever have as a human being. That intimacy with God is guaranteed by saving faith in Jesus Christ. Open your heart to Him right now by faith and you will experience His abiding presence.
